In the enhancement of knowledge / social impact

In addition to the two traditional activities carried by universities, i.e. education and research, Università Cattolica has always paid special attention to its contribution to society, through the enhancement and transfer of knowledge, in harmony with the founding principles of social Catholicism, which constitute the cornerstone of its identity.

In accordance with its mission and configuration, Università Cattolica actively participates in cultural and social life according to a geographical approach that can be traced back to three concentric circles:

• numerous activities are aimed at the territories in which the University campuses are directly located, both by enhancing the disciplines developed internally and by responding to the problems raised by the local context;
• as a University of Italian Catholics, many of the Third Mission activities concern the whole country. It is enough to think, for example, of the contribution made to the national debate on central issues such as life, family, the economic model to be pursued, the protection of the country's cultural heritage;
• The widest circle is the international one. From this point of view, Università Cattolica implements a portfolio of activities related to international cooperation, characterised by a variety of contents, geographical areas and impacts generated (see art. 7 of the Statute).

Finally, with regard to a central theme such as health protection, the University's Third Mission stands out for the many activities carried out by the various centres of the Policlinico Gemelli in the three areas just mentioned.

In the conception, design and implementation of Third Mission activities, various actors within the University are involved – with their own tasks and responsibilities. Each of them contributes to the realisation, through the enhancement of the skills possessed, the organic design of the initiatives that the University addresses to society as a whole.
