The tasks of the Faculties

Università Cattolica is a non-state university which, as such, has statutory autonomy also with respect to internal organisation.

At Università Cattolica, the Faculties represent the reference point for teaching, research and Third Mission activities.

Pursuant to art. 24 of the Statute, in fact, the Faculties "have the primary task of promoting and organising teaching activities for the achievement of Undegraduate Degrees, Graduate Degrees and Specialisation Diplomas [... ] and, in compliance with the guidelines established by the Academic Senate, they ensure the development and quality of research activities, relating to this end with the departments and institutes, taking into account the proposals formulated by the latter".

With particular reference to research activities, pursuant to art. 26 of the Statute, the Faculty Council's tasks are "the planning of research objectives and activities and the validation, in compliance with current regulations, of the overall scientific output on the basis of the data acquired by the competent research structures". Finally, it is useful to clarify that the Departments - in Università Cattolica - do not correspond to those provided for by the "Gelmini" legislation for state universities: pursuant to art. 30 of the Statute, in fact, they "are responsible for the promotion and organisation of research activities, in compliance with the guidelines established by the Academic Senate and the programming developed by the Faculty Councils to which full and associate professors and university researchers primarily belonging to the department belong".

Faculties and QA

One of their primary tasks is to promote and organise teaching activities. With reference to the QA process, the Faculties are responsible for the implementation of the related policies. In particular:

  • carry out self-assessment processes and activities, according to the guidelines and programming defined by the PQA;
  • identify and implement proposals for improvement;
  • verify the consequent results and the achievement of the expected benefits.

The Faculty Council, enlarged to all its members, approves the documents drawn up by the Review Group of each Degree Programme according to the procedures established in the relative indications provided by the PQA

Faculties and QA for Research and Third Mission

The Faculty Councils are entrusted with the task of planning the objectives of the research activities and validating the overall scientific output, on the basis of the data acquired by the competent research structures, in particular through the drafting of the Faculty Planning Document.

Faculties are also responsible for identifying, stimulating and contributing to the University's Third Mission activities that are consistent with their own disciplinary specificities. In addition, the Faculties contribute to the consequent monitoring of these activities, in particular through the drafting of the Faculty Planning Document.
