Guiding criteria and organisational aspects
In general terms, Quality Assurance (QA) consists of the set of activities through which a subject promotes a process of continuous improvement, aimed at giving confidence to all interested parties, both internal and external. QA is pursued through the management of coordinated actions to guide and keep the processes that characterize it under control. Specifically, with reference to the university system, the top management bodies of Università Cattolica - the Rector, the Board of Directors and the Academic Senate - are responsible for defining the guidelines of the quality policy and the structure of the QA that must implement these policies.
With specific reference to QA and the effectiveness of the teaching and research activities of the Universities and to the periodic evaluation of the quality, efficiency and results achieved by the Universities, the QA of teaching is implemented by monitoring and evaluating the management of the educational offer - from the design of new Courses of Study (CdS) to their review -, while the QA of research and Third Mission is implemented, at Università Cattolica, taking the individual Faculties as reference subjects.
The Deans and Faculty Boards, on the basis of the indications provided for by the Statute of Università Cattolica, therefore exercise a very broad responsibility with respect to QA activities. In addition to teaching, in fact, the faculties are responsible for planning and supervising the research activities of the professors and participating in the implementation of Third Mission initiatives.
